he only thing that proved dreadful about this year’s Westmorland County Show was the forecast. Christine Knipe and her staff at Lane Farm must have been very concerned prior to the show, but they needn’t have worried. The sun shone and the crowds once again turned out in their droves to witness the best that Westmorland has to offer - from high quality livestock to brilliant local produce in the UK’s biggest food marquee! Record crowds and another sweltering day ensured Driffield Show’s reputation was even further enhanced this year. Atrocious weather conditions turned Kilnsey Show into a quagmire this year, but it certainly didn’t dim the enthusiasm of those who were there. It was one of those days when visitors, stand holders and competitors were being hauled on to the showground as much as they had to be hauled off at the end! The sheep and cattle areas were strictly for those who had wellies! But there those who tried paddling across in trainers and even high heels!
